I still recall MCIS release day. I was the admin of Listesa, the Pumpkins mailing list. I was also a volunteer writer with my university paper. We had requested a review copy. Unlike a lot of review copies in the day we didn’t get an advance but this was couried directly to our campus office. I recall going in after my first class and we put it on in the office immediately. The immediate impression I had was how it was a major departure from the Gish and SD era sound that was so familiar at the time. Everything was so fresh and new it was a bit overwhelming at first as the style varies widely from song to song. At the time we had no idea what a massive success the album would become.
