Good Gig NEW DATE ?

Hiya guys, i cannot believe people piss about moaning about a gig by a great band, ok maybe not an amazing setlist but ok who cares, ive heard people say "oh SP are shit cos they didnt play any good songs" well in my opinion, thats shit cos if they were so "shit" then how come they headlined reading fes. on a sunday closing the show.
And i have heard another rumour about a winter world tour by SP with the uk on the list. I cannot be sure if this is true by i have been told that SP will play London around Jan/Feb 2009 so all we can do is hope.
RETURN TO THE UK !!!!

A Dream Come True

I don't care what any of you [bad word removed] critics have to say, that was the best damn concert I've EVER been to. 2 and a half hours of solid rock! I was right up front and loved every minute of it. SP, Billy, Jimmy, thank you sooo much for playing Mayonaise, that song helped me through a tough time in my life and to hear it live was too good to be true.
I travelled home on the tube next to these two dickheads bitching about how they didn't get Zero. Hello?!? I would have liked it too, but anyone who says the other 28 or so songs we did get weren't worth the trip because one barely 2-minute song wasn't on the setlist needs to be hung up by his scrotum. And considering they got their tickets for free through the record company where as most of us paid £20 or £30 over face value... Words can't describe how much I hate them!
Need to sound off to my Siamese Dream twin bro Nayf, who sacrificed his rather expensive spectacles to the moshpit!
SP thanx once more.

I'm just not getting the bad reviews about this gig. Admittedly I'm not a massive SP fan but they put on a good live show and that's what I love about them.
I've read reviews where they're saying that the crowd were unresponsive. I got stuck in the middle of the mosh pit and still have the bruises to show for it.
I've read reviews saying that Billy Corgan let his ego get the best of him. Really!?! He seemed to be in high spirits to me; reacting well with the crowd.
Reviews saying that they didn't play the best songs. Yup, there were a couple of songs I switched off to (and at one point - during United States during the lengthy guitar riff thingee - Mr Corgan caught me. Stared right at me for a couple of minutes, I tried to smile back but erm.. :|)but my dream set list isn't going be everyone else's dream list. Can't please everyone
I was extremely lucky 'coz I got a good position a few rows back from the stage. Could see everything until the really tall guy stood in front me - why tall people need to stand at the front, God knows!?!
What spoilt it for me was the drunken idiots in the mosh pit. It's those idiots that make mosh pits dangerous. One girl got knocked down, fortunately someone managed to pick her up quickly before she got hurt. Okay I might have been the boring one for not joining in and not getting so drunk that I'm not even aware why I'm moshing, but my days of moshing ended a few years ago, my knees can no longer take it
. I've been there done that, so I happy to stand to the side and take in the good music and atmosphere. All of which this gig had.
It was fabulous gig and I would go and see them again if given the opportunity.

First time participant, long time fan of the music.
Some here have said about the bad setup at the gig. I agree!! wish i'd tried down at the front tho like Jellybelly83 said. I was up to the back and could not see the band clearly. For the ppl at the back absolutely essetial to have large screens.
"Sound engineers",what a joke, they should be called "muppets who turn volume up too high". It shouldnt be difficult to make such an advanced audio setup like that at the O2 sound brilliant without sounding too loud. The human ear has a maximum level too, beyond which natural distortion kicks in.
What should have been the concert of a life time was ruined by not being able to hear any notes because of the noise. Even wearing customized ear plugs, listening to stand inside your love, the base was transmitted through my bones as if I was next to an airport. What a shame!! I am put off from going to any more SP concerts - aarrgh! yet so many of their gigs on the net sound great, and not at such new venues.
Has anyone heard SP recently - i mean, actually HEARD them live without their ears overtoning??
Truth is, I'd never heard SP's new songs prior to the gig and can safely say i STILL haven't heard them!!
SP, Billy, Jimmy, the concert was still great, your quips went with the presence on stage, and i believe you put in a huge effort. Tell those sound boys to get some third party opinions on volume next time!!
good luck!

Actually Ray_to_Jerry, I was only there to see Oceansize. The Pumpkins were just an added bonus. I'll admit I'm a Smashing Pumpkins fan, but come on! They aren't nearly what they used to be. I just think that Oceansize sounded better and its shit that they only go to play 4 songs. IMHO

Sir_dux is gay, how can you even say the opening act had any talent? I was forever trying to make out what they were saying. You're paying to see the Pumpkins and then bitch about them playing for too long? My advice, don't see SP again, that was Jimmy and Billy at their best, and if you can't appreciate that then you might as well stop being an SP "fan."

First off, hat's off to jimmy, you drummed like a beast! that was such a great comback gig! Didn't like the lack of songs! yeah, three hours, not enough! jee, maybe they should have played all their albums all the way through, so no one got disapointed. hmmm. also if you can't see, get closer. it ain't hard. I missed the first song and still made it to the front. don't complain about that either cos people have done that since the dawn of gigs!
I'll just say that it was such a rockin' gig, with so many great songs! and i am sorry for you non-smokers who finally got their law to stop us smoking indoors and we still did it at the gig, but come on SHUT UP AND INJOY YOUR LIFE (or stop us, don't just bitch on a review page)!!!!!!!!!!

Don't get me wrong, best gig I've ever been too, and far better than the SP's at the Reading Festival, but some idiots let the gig down.
I only wish you finished with Cherub Rock. Oh well, it still rocked my world.

The setlist was pretty good although I was hoping to hear here is no why and jellybelly. A band that has toured as extensively as the pumpkins should not be criticised for varying their setlist as they have so many great songs. I was unfortunate to get stuck in a lift at the end of the show with a complete nob head who was bitching on that they did not play enough early stuff and they didnt even play Ava Adore "the one good song off adore" - which they did. What a cock. If you do happen to read this you lanky ponce your a nobhead!
I have to concede though that the atmosphere in the O2 was pants - and I dont believe this was soley due to the size of the venue as I have been to another gig there which was great. Here I have to say the band must be criticised as the setup was only really directed at the few thousand people in the mosh pit. When they played Wound it sounded like a bit of a mess. In a venue the size of the O2 the band should have forked out for some better lights and backdrops as the stage looked pretty pathetic. I know someone will just say "its all about the music" - but when you play a venue that big you have to make the most of it!
My biggest criticism goes to the crowd! You sucked!

Whilst I agree with the comments about "the solo", arenas and maybe a shorter set, I paid to see Smashing Pumpkins & I did. All you people moaning that "he should have played this, he should have played that" should by themselves an ipod and listen to the tracks they want on it! The good thing about live is you never know what's going to be played. Cheers Billy etc! If they don't like what you play - DON'T invite them next time!!

Hi it was my 1st SP gig and I loved it. I thought the accoustic songs were really good. Billy did go a bit mental in the last part of the gig and solo'd a bit too long but hey...I really enjoyed Tonight and drown...which rocked.
I thought Jimmy sounded really great the whole way through, I couldn't quite see him though as where I was standing there were huge speakers in the way!! dammit. People around us were enjoying themselves too.
I'd definately go and see them again.
A happy SP fan

Am I the only one who thought the opening band, Oceansize, sounded far better than the Pumpkins??? It sucks that the Pumpkins played soo long and the opening band only played for about 1/2 hr.

After my first pumpkind gig in Glasgow last year i thought i knew what to expect....but i was wrong. I queued 4 and half hrs before the show and was at the very front in the middle. Billy was within spitting distance. I feel like the luckist girl in the world (i also queued at 6am for the signing).
The gig was awesome, set list amazing and the aucoustic songs brought tears to my eyes. Drown was amazing and i was thrilled to hear my favourite song ever Mayonaise. I have nothing bad to say at all. The band worked their soncks off for nearly 3 hrs and Billy never stopped. True proffessional and devoted to entertaining his fans. Had a really good laufgh with the crowd too and did an awesome cover of Lips like Sugar. For all u moaning about the setlist and no Cherub rock, please stop. If i could be greaedy i would have added 10 more songs, but you would be hard pushed to go to another gig by another band and get 27 songs. I am still star struck and can't beleive what an amazing day and night i had.
BILLY IF YOU ARE READING THIS YOU ARE AN ABSOLUTE LEGEND AND YOU REALLY DID GIVE ME THE GREATEST DAY I EVER KNOWN XX
