pumpkins

i was very privilaged to have witnessed one of the best bands around in the rds. it is something i will never forget and hope to get the chance again. however i was dissapointed with the set list. it did have some classics in there but compared with the set lists of other gigs it wasnt as good. i was very pleased to have heard drown as its one of my fave songs but the exclusion of disarm, untitled, muzzle, here is no why, thirty-three, to sheila, hummer, cherub rock, slow dawn, winterlong, real love and zero for example. a few of those could have been thrown in. i cant fault the performance only the choice of the songs and the reaction the crowd had. i even felt my concentration goin at certain points.

pumpkins rule and i hope there back soon possibly an acoustic tour?

about 1500 euro

ticket to concert.....60 euro
roundtrip airfare from New York.....700 euro
3 nights at hotel.....600 euro
seeing the pumpkins in Dublin.....priceless!!!
Sure my credit card debt is a little larger, but the show was totally worth it. I was in the "pit" section and there were a group of yoounger kids in front of me that were totally rockin' and had smiles on their faces the whole time which made me happy.Ahhh youth! I thought they sounded amazing...Billy was in a good mood thanked the crowd...picked out an Irish wife....I think she was about 15...don't they have laws against this?? Kidding just a bit jealous. Mayo was a nice surprise as was United States. Jimmy is bleepin' amazing!!!
Can't wait until they come back home!!

Loved every bit
Wednesday, February 13, 2008 - 5:49 pm - Blandkind
I thought it was great. Arrived way too early nearly pi**ed my pants waiting. (Thank god for those bushes) Stood around watchin drunken eejits pissin IN the queue but who cares I was there for one reason only the gig. All i regret is listening to the Prague GIG before hand coz i kinda knew the set then. Loved it all though got right up in front of billy. Even got his pleck. There was a lot of talking around me though. I bet even billy could hear ppl durin my blue heaven and hopefully me singin along. And as for everyone with their phones in my face aah but easy to ignore all those minor things when the band is right in front of you. Drown was a highlight and try try try. They were all good and billy wore a skirt instead of a scarf like the ambassador. What more could u want.

The Price?
Wednesday, February 13, 2008 - 2:23 pm - MagicSG1
I dont know what everyones complaining about the ticket price for, i had to pay 220 euro for two on ebay and they were throughly worth it, the band were amazing, stayed onstage for over two hours, and as for the crowd not moving well as far as i'm concerned i never stopped jumping around, hope they come back again!

Awwww, my post was no more or less constructive then your own Ciaran84. I don't remember saying anyone else's opinion was s**t, and being born at a similar time to myself certainly wouldn't swing it either way.

Oh, and I like my attitude, especially when it comes to the pumpkins, helps with the rock chicks, you get it.....son ?!! Though I'll have to admit to as of yet gained zero wisdom... :/

We'll have to agree to disagree on the merits of the setlist and performance, for myself and others whom have been diehards for years it was great, before and after the show (hehe), that's it really. So long.

Well after your very constructive point..of "everyone else has a shit opinion except me"...

Your probably a couple of years older then me so drop your wise old man attitude.

I still think the pumpkins have some great albums, but live..they were a disappointment. Lots of bands and artists have great albums who again, I've seen live and didnt like. I probably see 20-30 major acts a year(usually around europe), and I know what I like and I know what I dont like, and I didn't like Saturdays gig.

Thats my 'celtic kiddie' opinion, sorry I wasnt born in early 70s so my opinion would matter more to you.

hardcore feelings

Wow, there's a lot of passion in these 'reviews'. Which proves that the Pumpkins still have it.
I've been to the Paris Bercy concert but I guess the setlist was pretty much the same. And I totally loved it. I can say that it was more like a b-sides concert so in a way i understand the people who felt cheated. But guys, this band is not about singles and album-fillers. It's something else. so you can try to understand it or not go to their gigs anymore. Anyway, I think ONE concert will never be enough.
well, cheers and great music for everyone!

It was not my intention to insoult anyone, everyone has the right to make an opinion and even shout it loud. The point is that opinion might have good or poor background... good or poor quality.Mighty be gieven just because of poor reasons without any bigger ideas. I'm not really bitchy or pissed off, I just can't agree with some kind of bullshit I've read. Check the opinion of Pushkin... this fellw gotta right, he cought the point completely and said exactly what I wanted to say. You might felt dissapointed...right. I think you must rather learn more, feel more about the music generally, try to dig dipper try to rock more. Rock has so many faces, every band has so many faces. All this stuff which Pumpkins have been going through as a band is absloutely amazeing story. They've changed as a band, as people, on the other hand they didn't loose their pumpkin soul. To know about it you should know more about them, more than ROTTEN APPLES,....... one more thing, I was standin' all the time rougly 16 feet from stage with my friends... one of them who is not a great pumpkin fan said after gig... " I didn't know that Corgan is such a cool fellow, and it's amazeing how he's enjoying this whole music, this what he's doing"... to be honest I've seen this as well...I've heard this as well, no matter of the poor quoality of the sound... that was the only one poor thing. Anyway I wish you the best, wish you to find your only one of a kind way of listening to the sense of music, lookin at the music...maybe THROUGH THE EYES OF RUBY.

Fantastic show, dodgy sound

Fantastic gig, great great setlist. Can't believe we got Mayonaise as well as the (only played live for the third time EVER) My Blue Heaven. The night was only let down by the below par sound, by no means a first at a Dublin show (anyone at the Future Embrace gig in the Ambassador few years back? - now that was bad).

Did think that there were a lot of 'Johnny Come Lately' fans there, waiting for the MTV hits (you know who you are), real fans know what the pumpkins think of that. Lotta kids who were in nappies when the Pumpkins (and the grunge/indie scene) were in there heyday, sorry not to see more of the grunge generation there. Felt very glad to have grown up when I did (never thought I'd look back and think that).

Ciaran84 and fincollins are clearly clueless celtic tiger kiddies, not true fans, or both (I'm guessing the latter). No offense to those of you whom are celtic tiger kiddies, you gotta tough break musically growing up when you have (with a few exceptions).

The pumpkins don't do 'album fillers' fincollins, if you're looking for that why not go grab some housewife rock like Coldplay, Travis etc. it's amazing how you were able to read everyones minds and know we were all 'just waiting for the gig to end', he tells us he's 'been a fan for nearly 7yrs', holy s**t so you've been a fan since they broke up....wow, hardcore. It was mentioned on the Ray Foley show on today fm too....hell that must mean it's true!!!

Today FM - ha! Ray Foley - ha!....gimme a break, f#+ki*g pissweak.

I've been a fan for 18 yrs, have seen them six times in various countries and have one of the biggest (if not the biggest) pumpkins collection on this island, it wasn't the best SP gig I've been to but it still rocked the senses and was great to hear some old tracks that haven't been played on tour for a very long time, oh yeah and it was the Smashing Pumpkins....playing 20 feet in front of me....nuff said. Lookin forward to seeing them in London.

(maybe ciaran84 missed this drinking at the bar)

I was near the barrier outside the pit at the start of the gig and went to the back because the people I was with got a little pissed off and with the gig and we decided to head to the back.

I was in the bar for most of Bullet with butterfly wings(yeah, not too happy about missing that), but under 5 mins in total, And the people I was with headed off during everlasting gaze.

As for complaining about the ticket price...for what I seen on Saturday..I'm complaining about the 60euro ticket price. Pumpkins with better sound, better show, better setlist, I'd have been delighted with 60euro a ticket.

And I know me and Fincollins are the only ones who gave bad reviews, but everybody I spoke to was highly disappointed. It was mentioned on the Ray Foley show on today fm too.

**Oopps on the 5 stars :/

Best Gig Ever
Sunday, February 10, 2008 - 3:18 pm - CarlosD
Who the heck was complaining about the price?I've paid far more than 60 euro for bands who played shows not even half as long as the Pumpkins last night, they played for nearly three horus! And as far as people whinging about the crowd goes,I'd like to know where you guys were,it was the most aggresive gig I'd ever been to,the crowd was moshing like crazy to Tonight,Tonight of all songs for heaven's sake. The crowd did get a little unresponsive during United States and the like but that's to be expected, when a song goes on for ten minutes I think you can be forgiven for just listening to it and appreciating it rather than trying to sing along.

The band were really well into it and so were the fans(well, a lot of people didn't seem to know Cash Car Star or Wound etc.) No point whinging about other fans, you should've just got into it yourself.

As for the setlist,I can't imagine a more perfect one,Mayonaise,Stand Inside Your Love,Perfect,Today,Cherub Rock etc. The whole gig was overwhelming,if you didn't enjoy it you can't blame the band or anyone else. Also,me and my friends were the people Billy told to stop chanting for Zero, best moment of my life!

Great show but........................
Sunday, February 10, 2008 - 3:04 pm - Xenjiz
Man great show and great setlist, but by the end you could tell the crowd were getting so bored with the wall of noise jam and of course the snorefest which is united states. They should really split those thing up in the set. Crowd was terrible loads of drunken ass rednecks who only knew tonight and nothing else and people who cannot respect and appreciate a bands diversity of music.

pity i wasn't there...
Sunday, February 10, 2008 - 3:01 pm - delaney
... but to weigh in on the "crowd moving" issue if i moshed i wouldn't be able to see as much of the band on stage, watch how billy plays the guitar parts, watch how they interact, see all those subtleties. just saying, don't judge a concert on crowd movement. different strokes for different folks.

Stop moaning people
Sunday, February 10, 2008 - 2:40 pm - rosemarch
I liked the gig and i highly disagree with the person going on about how the ticket cost to much and blablabla. now if ur a smoker u spend more than feckin 6oE on cigarettes every wk so YO go and buy yourself something pretty instead.

why do people go on abot how he didn't interact with the audience? at the end of the day they are people. real humanbeins and maybe i'm just saying mayebe it's hard getting up on a stage in the same city on of ur fans died. and mayebe billy corgan isn't put on this earth to make peopel feel liek he "interacted". how the hell do u even ineract properly to the degree that peopel get satisfied?!
maybe everyone should just stop their bitchin about the gig.

I like dit. I loved it actually. They were better live than i ever expected. they'r talanted and billy corgan is a genius at lyrics.

it is so easy to get stuck on the negativity. i had fellas next to me smokin, then jumpin around. atleast they were enjoying it. and Everyone doesn't enjoy music the same way. some people like to stand still.
if there's idiots that feel liek spending 60E and sitting in the smoking area then fine do that. and if ye don't like the gigs i suggest you stop going to them.

The bottom line is that they were brill under the circumstances they were dealing with. meaning a shitarena with shitsound.

I still woke up this morning feeling happy.
