It goes to show you that billy can do it on his own. This albulm really surprised me.My favorites are cameraeye,a100, and the oldies classic to love somebody.I put king corgan up there as the greatest musical artist for all of his diffrent styles over the years

This album snuck up on me. I wasn't sure what to think of it, then I thought it was ok, and now I cannot get enough of it. How do they do that? I literally cannot get enough of every single song. I'm like a drug addict. Innovative, interesting, new, effective. It's [bad word removed]ing brilliant.

great album

Be Yourself

Well, I'm going to get to the point. I became a much happier person when I stopped listening to them. I don't think it is healthy for the listener to idolize another human being just for making music. I have nothing against Billy or Jimmy or them wanting to make money or push their ideas on others... but think about it. I don't want to sound condescending, either. I really don't. I want to help. Deep down, do you think Billy would put so much marketing effort into trying to get people to buy his cd's if his main goal was helping people? He's made millions but still wants more of your money -- money from people with low-paying jobs. And you get really dark, depressing, music and the chance to idolize someone with good ( not great ) musical abilities. It's not a win-win. Again, I'm not putting anyone down -- either the band or the fans, but I promise you that everyone reading this is just as talented as Billy or Jimmy. Maybe it isn't making rock music. Maybe it's helping others. Doing charity work. Creating a more positive future instead of some weird, Christian-apacolyptic music. I love Billy -- just like I love everyone. I don't belong to any religion, but I care about you all -- and the band too. It's not healthy for them to believe that they are this essential part of people's lives. Think for yourself. Don't let them do it for you. Thanks for reading -- please be kind with the replies.
One more thing -- I do think they have good intentions, but the band / fan relationship isn't healthy for either party involved.

Beautiful, very emotional album for me

I have a hard time understanding how people can vote this album as anything less than 4 stars... any TRUE Pumpkin fan knows Billy's love and skill with electronic music. I will admit that the first couple times I listened to this album, it didn't do much for me... but like MANY great albums, it just took some time to grow in me. Soon enough I began completely loving certain songs, until I eventually loved the entire album. A lot of it for me is the tonal qualities he experiments with, very unique and unlike anything I've heard elsewhere; then there's the lyrics, extremely deep, from the heart... some songs like Now (And Then) and Sorrows (in blue) literally sometimes make me want to cry. Mina Loy is just an incredible song, period.
This album formed a very personal meaning to me, I think if one truly gives it the chance it deserves, they would likely come to the same conclusion.

Interresting

Billy Corgan solo, long wanted stuff. After the SP years, after Zwan came something new. Self made electronic-metal stuff. Not bad, sometimes very good but in all not good enough, just for me of course. Some pretty moments and riffs, but this almost industrial sound was I think a little bit strange after the good known albums. Specially on the drums can we hear this. Without Jimmys' power is everything empty, even Billys' voice. But of course Walking Shade is cool! And Robert Smith too!

Walking Shade is a Classic

I love the song Walking Shade, the video was well needed after Zwan, I missed Billy's mellon collie Image! the rest of the album is alright... Mina Loy, great song!

This album is class

Firstly, don't expect a Pumpkins sound. in zwan you could find the musical link, in the future embrace the only sp link in terms of sound is billy unmistakable voice. the music is a new direction for billy, which i am sad he hasn't carried on (publically anyway), 'walking shade' is in my opinion as good as any single that SP has released. album tracks like 'now and then' and 'strayz' are beautiful and will appeal to SP fans who like 'adore'.

its a shame most people only know the name Smashing Pumpkins and not Billy Corgan, if this cd had Smashing pumpkins written on it i think it would have been a huge success, its a shame it works out like that.

my only disappointment with the future embrace was the limited size of the tour (probably due to poor cd sales), as i live in manchester i was gutted that Billy did two shows in London and no more in the UK, i priced it out and for ticket, travel to london, hotel and food it would have been £300 which is $600, i couldn't afford that!

maybe Corgan will return to this style of music in the future, on Zeitgeist i find the track 'God and Country' to be the nearest to the future embrace sound. i think the people who like TFE were most suprised by Billy's return to rock music (not that it is a bad thing at all, coz its always good to see billy with his guitar!)

anyway, buy this album!

Great album

Many critics always play on how an album sells then judge it;
like for example how Michael Jackson's critically acclaimed Thriller sold over 50 million or whatever but many consider Bad as the better album due to its design and lyrical content...
The same pretty much applies to The Smashing Pumpkins and Billy C, I remember I got into the Pumpkins pretty late, around the time Machina/Machines of God came out, I thought that album and Adore were flawless even if they didn't sell as much as Mellon Collie and Siamese Dreams but for their innovative style with Alternative Rock it was great, I was a huge fan of the Pumpkins just for Machina and Adore, let alone the other huge earlier albums...
With The Future Embrace the critics didnt help the album out, judging it against alot of Billy's old work with the pumpkins, even after he had blatently said he wasnt going to try and follow the work of the old because it would remind fans of what used to be.
Lyrically The Future Embrace is great, emotionally hitting every note, just class
I dont think I can name my favourites, cause I'd be naming the whole track list
I will say my least favourties are Pretty, Pretty Star and Starz

Beautiful

The Future Embrace
Thursday, December 6, 2007 - 2:25 am - RealmOfSoftDelusions
After 'Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness', both Billy Corgan and James Iha were quoted as saying the future of music was electronic. In 'Adore' and 'Machina / The Machines of God', Corgan delved into this area. Neither album performed as well as the straight rock assault, but Corgan continued to push the boundaries of alternative music even in his commercial semi-failure.

In 'The Future Embrace', Corgan uses a lot more electronic instrumentation than on any previous album, but fails to push the musical boundaries. By the time of Corgan's solo release, electronic music had already developed so much further, Corgan's attempts feel dated and lacklustre. The lyrics for the album are personal, one element of music for which Corgan has become renonwned. However, the music fails to punctuate the emotion in 'The Future Embrace', which leaves the majority of the album lacking.

This is not true of every track. 'To Love Somebody', the Bee Gees cover, is a brilliantly original cover version, where Corgan shows what he is capable of producing musically. 'The Camera Eye' and 'Mina Loy (M.O.H.)' are other highlights, for the album, but fall far behind what else can be found in the electronic and rock musical genres. 'Walking Shade', the only single released from the album, is not a bad effort either, but falls back on music movements which have appeared so often before they seem like clichés. There are other tracks, such as 'All Things Change', 'I'm Ready' and 'Now and Then', which seem too content to go for simple melodies, making them sound more like filler than properly realised efforts.

Even Corgan's voice seems to be reserved, limiting the emotional impact of the lyrics. In 'Walking Shade' his voice is even electronically manipulated, making the lyrics indiscernible. Corgan's mulitple-beat wails in 'Sorrows (In Blue)' give a little variety to an album where Corgan refuses to show the singing ability he had previously displayed in Smashing Pumpkins tracks like 'Disarm', 'Luna' and 'Thirty-Three'.

If the album is an initiation for Corgan in the electronic music world, he has not failed. But as anything else, the album is too reserved and bland to be considered a success.
